When Are Computer Repair Shops Open? Weekend and Evening Hours in 20 U.S. Cities
Updated October 22, 2026 · Calculated from the published hours of every shop on our city pages
If your laptop dies on a Friday night, the real question is not which shop is best but which one is open. We checked the published opening hours of 487 computer repair shops across 20 U.S. cities to see how much choice you actually have outside office hours.
The short answer
- Saturday is easy. 352 of 487 shops (72%) list Saturday hours.
- Sunday is where the choice thins out. 188 shops (39%) open on Sunday. Chain locations (uBreakiFix, Geek Squad and similar) are far more likely to: 76% of them open on Sunday, against 32% of independent shops. Independents still make up 134 of the 188 Sunday openings, simply because there are so many more of them.
- Evenings are common. 361 shops (74%) stay open until 6 PM or later on at least one weekday. Chains: 100%. Independents: 70%.
- “24 hours” usually means on-call, not walk-in. 31 shops list round-the-clock hours, and many of those are managed-IT companies and mobile technicians rather than walk-in storefronts.

What this means if your computer breaks on a weekend
- Saturday is your best window. Most cities have plenty of choice, so call ahead and go early.
- On Sunday, check your city’s Sunday list before you drive anywhere. A chain location is the most likely to be open, but most cities also have a few independents that open on Sunday.
- Evening drop-off is realistic in big cities. Most shops that stay late close between 6 and 8 PM.
- Back up first if the machine still starts. If a shop needs to replace a drive, your files are your responsibility.
How we counted
- Hours are each shop’s published Google Maps hours, collected in March 2026. Hours change, so treat this as a snapshot and call before you go.
- 97 of the 584 listed shops publish no hours at all. They are left out of every percentage, not counted as closed.
- “Open” means the shop lists hours for that day. Days marked closed or “by appointment” do not count.
- “Open late” means a listed weekday closing time of 6 PM or later.
- “Chain” means a national brand (uBreakiFix, Geek Squad, CPR, The Fix and similar) identified by name.
- The 20 cities are the ones with the most listed computer repair shops in our data.
